The guys did close to 146 miles yesterday, apparently due to a brisk tail-wind, but it seems they have slowed down today and will be going into Walvis at a stroll and not at a wild canter as they did in Hout Bay.
Communicating is difficult with Iridium - try explaining in 160 characters where to berth, what channel to use for calling up port control and what "lawn" is!
Also, once a message is sent, there is no record of it on my side (on Iridium). They guys switch the phone on in the mornings and evenings only so if you send something in the late morning and they reply at night it makes for a disjointed conversation.
Apart from that, what a great service! So I was horrified that our comms almost got screwed up from my side today. For the record: It is a good idea to always have a second sim-card handy for when something happens to your "default" number - and it would happen in those few precious moments when the Sat-phone on the boat is switched on!
